Cordless Angle Grinder Guide: When You Actually Need One (and Battery Mistakes to Avoid)

Angle grinders are battery-hungry. Learn when they make sense for DIY and what battery setup works.

A cordless angle grinder is powerful, but it’s not a “starter kit” tool for most apartments.

When it makes sense

  • Cutting metal (bolts, brackets)
  • Removing rust/paint (with proper discs)
  • Occasional masonry trimming (with the right setup)

Battery reality

Grinders drain small batteries fast. If you buy one:

  • plan for 4Ah or 5Ah+
  • keep a spare pack ready

Safety note (seriously)

Use correct disc type, eye protection, and guard. A grinder is not forgiving.
